DO THEY HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO SUCCEED WITH YOUR COMPANY RSI’s Entertainment and Sports Executive Search Firm team specializes in specific careers. By determining which career path a candidate wants to take, and whether or not they have what it takes to succeed in such a career, RSI can successfully wrap up the search for your new sports and entertainment professional.
Innovation: Candidates need to be able to find their own way in through the skills and the passions that they already possess. They should take an auxiliary course or two through one of the local art institutes. Or, conversely, make some friends who are students there, and get involved with their projects. They shouldn’t wait for someone to create the opportunity for them, because they won't. Besides, from a hiring perspective, nothing is more attractive than someone who has a proven dedication to their own vision, regardless of whether they had the proper means to pull it off or not.
Intern Experience: Internships can be great things. Never again will candidates have the opportunity to be handed such a high-level and well-rounded exposure to a field they love. Candidates with internship experience prove to us that they really want to be there.
Persistence: If candidates get down the road a ways, and they find themselves in a position to accept a job doing what they truly, truly love, even if it's for less pay than they’d like, they should STAY WITH IT. The right candidate won’t let the short-term hardships sway them from their passion if they can help it. Things may get hard, times may get lean, or they may not. But no financially secure office job can ever make up for the thrill of having a life in the art that drives you. And in the longer run, it may start paying better financial dividends to equal all the artistic ones.
Ability to Collaborate: If a candidate cannot work well with people, are the type of person who is always kicking and screaming, and other people don’t like being around them, they will not make it in this industry. No matter how talented they are, if they make it hard for others to work with them, they will be replaced. There are plenty of people who are aspiring to work in the entertainment industry that are just as talented as them, but that are far easier to work with.
Dedication: While candidates are waiting for that dream opportunity, they should take advantage of every opportunity that comes their way. Many ambitious and over confident wannabes think that writing a script for a D-List film or hosting a college radio show is below their dignity. They fail to realize that every single drop makes the ocean. It's always better to keep trying and keep occupying yourself, rather than sitting and letting all the opportunities go. And besides, they never know, someone may take notice of them in at a small film festival and decide to use them for his next venture.
Realistic: While it's good to make future plans and strategies, candidates need to make sure that they don't waste too much time doing that. They need to stay productive and use their time for directing their own films, writing their own scripts, hosting, attending open-mike nights, applying for internships, learning new software, etc. If they take it one step at a time, their future will take care of itself.
Disciplined: Last but not the least, if a candidate wants to adopt any of the above suggestions in their life, they have to be disciplined. They need to be able to stay focused on their goal and do what is important today. They shouldn’t just buy a camera—they should make it a point to go out and film something new every day. They should never let the small opportunities pass them up. They need to be prepared to have doors slammed in their face, but be ready to keep knocking. Being disciplined can take a candidate a long way and distinguish them from other people trying to break into the industry who are not as driven or hardworking as they are.
Must be able to report on sports in an unbiased yet critical tone and be able to thoroughly analyze what is happening on the field and why it's happening. Their voice must be enjoyable to listen to as well, and a wry sense of humor doesn’t hurt to add more entertainment to the sports news. Charm and expertise seem to be the cornerstones of the highest-level sports professionals.
